Role overview: In this role, the individual’s work will be extremely important at the center of our mitochondrial biology research in Gothenburg. To thrive in this position, it is important that the individual has broad competencies in various biological research areas and enjoys learning, as the position will be part of a range of complex projects. The successful candidate must be committed and driven by challenges, focusing on end results. Proficiency in cell culture and aseptic techniques is mandatory. You will collaborate with a team of highly experienced scientists based in the USA and Sweden, making effective communication and teamwork essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct cell and in vitro biology experiments with precision and expertise, contributing to the advancement of drug development.
  • Demonstrate proficiency and excellence in laboratory operations.
  • Careful experimental record-keeping using an electronic notebook.
  • Actively contribute to scientific projects.
  • Successful cross collaboration with other teams.
  • Ability to effectively communicate scientific data and present to various audience levels.

 Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor/Masters and PhD degree in cell biology, molecular biology, or biomedical analysis.
  • Strong background as a Cell Biologist, with a background in neuronal cell models, preferred.
  • 0 to 5 years’ experience in an industrial research setting.

Communication in English (both verbal and written) is necessary as you will work in a multicultural environment within a global company. Various technical aids are important work tools in this role and the requirement for daily delivery means that you must be confident working with computers and systems.

Your role
The employee will initially focus on tasks within the cell biology and in vitro biology groups, collaborating on the design and execution of cellular assays. This includes various responsibilities such as cell culture work, including primary cell culturing, maintenance, differentiation, and assay development. They will also be involved in drug treatment assays, measuring cell viability, mitochondrial respiration, and protein, RNA and DNA levels, as well as conducting mode of action studies to support drug discovery efforts related to mitochondrial targets. In addition to these primary responsibilities, the employee may contribute to sample preparation for structural biology, proteomics, and transcriptomics analyses as the role evolves and could encompass activities such as operating, programming, and maintaining laboratory instruments and automation systems. The employee is expected to prepare high quality documents for internal and external presentations as well as support employer intellectual property filings by producing the appropriate documentation, such as protocol reports, data tables, etc. Documentation will require the use of research databases and electronic notebooks in addition to basic use of standard software packages (such as MS Office) and specific research software related to cell biology, etc.  Routine activities may involve organizing lab space, ordering lab supplies, and helping to manage project team activities. Working collaboratively with group members is a must to ensure a productive team culture. The employee will acquire skills via training courses provided by employer or external providers that are necessary to program lab equipment such as HTS robots and HTS readers. Each member of the Pretzel team is expected to participate in company activities with other employees and consultants as needed. The employee must adhere to employer’s policies and lab safety standards while carrying out their duties.  The employee shall perform the above tasks under the direction of Pretzel Project Leaders and Group Leaders.  The employee may also perform other work-related tasks delegated by the designated Pretzel Manager or Project Leader.
